Jere Whitson offers a free after school program that we call PALS
(Providing Accelerated Learning for Students). This program is
funded by a lottery grant. Students in grades K-4 may attend 1-2
days a week, or all 5 days of the week if they choose. Students
begin each afternoon with a snack and then travel with their grade
level to different stations: Homework Help/Tutoring, Computer Lab,
Art, Fitness, Girls’ Club, Boys’ Club, or Music. The
Homework Help/Tutoring Session is offered every day. The other
sessions are rotated among the five days of the school week. Certified
teachers and non-certified assistants work during the afternoons
at PALS. We are also fortunate to have lots of Tennessee Tech University
student volunteers to help with our program throughout the school
year.
